Course Location & Format
Held in person at Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre (1959 152 St, Surrey) with lecture, hands-on workshops, and the opportunity to treat a patient under guided mentorship.
CE Credits

What Does This
Course Cover?
This hands-on course provides dentists with a comprehensive approach to atraumatic extraction and ridge preservation grafting, combining lecture-based learning with practical workshops. Over two days, participants will gain expertise in case selection, instrumentation, grafting techniques, suturing, and PRF, with live demonstrations and hands-on practice using models and cadavers.
An optional two-day session, held a few weeks later, offers the opportunity to perform a guided extraction and grafting procedure under expert mentorship.
Dr. Newitt completed his Bachelors Degree from Simon Fraser University in 1988 and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia in 1993. He spent two years interning at the British Columbia Cancer Agency before moving onto private practice in Vancouver. Dr. Newitt has continued his education in dental technologies and advanced aesthetics over the last 20 years. In 2016, Dr. Newitt received his Associate Fellow credentials from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Newitt has taught in various disciplines of dentistry over the years, including implant, cosmetic, and laser dentistry. He founded and led BITE Club, a study club for GP's looking to gain a better understanding of both implant treatment planning as well as implant restoration. A lifelong learner, he is also an alumnus of the AAID Vancouver MaxiCourse, our flagship program and Surgical Implant Residency.

Optional - Surgical Days with mentorship
On a scheduled treatment day, participants will perform an extraction and socket preservation grafting procedure under direct faculty mentorship. Each participant must provide their own patient and submit a case presentation at least two weeks in advance for evaluation and approval. Faculty mentor will guide the procedure to ensure a safe and effective learning experience.

Steps to Bring a Patient for Treatment

Case Selection & Preparation

Identify a suitable patient for extraction and socket preservation.

Obtain necessary radiographs (CBCT, panoramic, periapical) and intraoral photos.

Assess infection status and risk factors.

Case Submission & Approval (at least 2 weeks before treatment day)

Prepare a case presentation including patient history, clinical images, and radiographs.

Submit the case to faculty for review and approval.

Receive feedback and confirmation to proceed.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

Educate the patient on procedure expectations, risks, and post-op care.

Obtain informed consent.

Ensure all necessary instruments and materials are available.

Treatment Day (live surgery with mentorship)

Present the case to the group prior to the procedure.

Perform the extraction and socket graft under faculty guidance.

For those participants who want to attend the surgical day but will not bring a patient, lower fees are applicable and you will have the opportunity to chairside assist the procedure and observe your colleagues.
